GETTING TO KNOW

Anne and Albert "Bo Bo" Faggard

ALBERT “BOBO” FAGGARD

By Deane Spradley

Mr. Faggard or “BoBo” as he is affectionately known, has enjoyed quite a daylily career.  He has managed to somehow work in a career of 39 years with Gulf States and raising eight children with a love of daylilies.

Mr. Faggard's Seedling

BoBo told me he drove a van of members to a convention in the 70’s and that sparked his interest in the Gulf Coast club.  BoBo brought his financial experience to the club and the dues went from $1.00 to $2.00 under his tutelage.

BoBo is not only a collector of quality daylilies, but also a hybridizer of fine daylilies.  Some of his first introductions include:  Captain Chris, Captain Joe, Captain Eddy, and Commander Bud all named for his dear friends.  He has registered 63 plants to date. One of his more recent efforts Double Soufflé Magic, a miniature double, adorns the cover of our yearbook.  Bobo also spent several years working with Edgar Brown, also a hybridizer of quality plants.  His hybridizing program is currently focusing on the miniature doubles and large tetraploids.  We are all looking forward to what he may produce.

BoBo’s plants have won several awards, but he said his most distinct honor came when he was awarded the Region 6 Service Award because he was then recognized nationally.

BoBo has held offices and performed many jobs for our club with his charming wife Anne by his side.  They have both left an enduring legacy of family, friends, and beautiful plants which we can all aspire to.

“The club is about promoting, encouraging, and educating the public on the daylily,” BoBo said.  He invites you all to come and join a meeting.
